Burn Survivor Network

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Burn Survivor Network handles information when you use our website, mobile application, Ask BSN, and related services.

Effective September 17, 2026

Burn Survivor Network (“BSN”) is a program of Healing Home Group, a nonprofit organization. We respect the privacy of the people who use BSN and are committed to handling information responsibly.

Information You Provide

You may provide information when you contact BSN, create or use an account where available, communicate with Ask BSN, submit a resource or other information through a form, or otherwise interact with our services.

Depending on how you use BSN, information you provide may include your name, email address, optional organization information, inquiry topic, messages, resource requests, city or state information you choose to provide, account information where applicable, and other information you voluntarily submit.

Contact Forms

When you submit the contact form on the BSN website, we collect the information you enter so that the BSN team can receive, review, and respond to your inquiry. This may include your name, email address, optional organization, selected topic, and message.

Ask BSN

Ask BSN is an AI-powered resource-navigation and supportive conversational feature. When you communicate with Ask BSN, your messages and relevant conversation context may be processed to understand your request, provide a response, and identify resources from the Burn Survivor Network directory.

Information necessary to provide Ask BSN may be transmitted to service providers that support artificial intelligence, speech, hosting, infrastructure, or related functionality.

Important: Ask BSN provides resource navigation and supportive information. It is not a medical provider, mental health provider, crisis service, emergency service, or substitute for professional care. Ask BSN cannot contact emergency services on your behalf. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. In the United States, call or text 988 for crisis support or call 911 for an emergency.

Voice and Speech Features

The BSN mobile application may provide optional voice features for Ask BSN. If you choose to use them, the application may request access to your device microphone and speech-recognition functionality.

Voice or speech information is processed as necessary to provide the voice feature. You may use text-based Ask BSN functionality without using voice features.

Accounts and Conversation History

Where account functionality is available, account information may be used to authenticate you and provide features associated with your account, including conversation-history functionality where offered.

Where available, BSN may provide controls that allow users to clear conversation history.

Resource Searches and Location Information

BSN allows users to search for resources using information such as state, city, service type, and support needs. Location information you enter in a search or conversation may be used to identify resources that serve the requested area.

BSN does not require precise GPS location information in order to search the resource directory.

Information Collected Automatically

When you use BSN, certain technical or usage information may be collected automatically through our website, application, servers, hosting environment, or analytics systems. Depending on the service used, this may include information such as IP address, browser or device information, operating system information, pages or features used, approximate geographic information derived from technical data, timestamps, diagnostics, and general usage information.

We may use this information to operate, secure, troubleshoot, understand, and improve BSN.

Service Providers

BSN may use third-party service providers to support portions of our website, mobile application, hosting, infrastructure, analytics, communications, artificial intelligence, speech, security, and related services.

Information may be processed by these providers when reasonably necessary for them to provide services to BSN. Their handling of information is also subject to applicable agreements, laws, and their own privacy obligations.

Selling Personal Information and Advertising Tracking

Burn Survivor Network does not sell users’ personal information.

BSN does not use personal information to track users across unrelated companies’ applications and websites for targeted advertising.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect information handled through BSN. However, no internet-based service, transmission method, or electronic storage system can guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, to provide and maintain BSN services, maintain appropriate operational records, comply with applicable legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the security and integrity of our services.

Children’s Privacy

BSN provides resource information that may be useful to burn survivors of different ages and to their families and caregivers. BSN is not intended to knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without appropriate authorization.

If we learn that personal information from a child under 13 has been collected in a manner that requires parental consent and appropriate consent was not obtained, we will take reasonable steps to address or delete that information as appropriate.

Your Choices

You may choose not to provide optional information. You may decline microphone or speech-recognition permissions and continue using features that do not require those permissions. Where available, you may also clear Ask BSN conversation history.

You may contact BSN with privacy questions or requests concerning information you have provided to us.

Third-Party Resources and Links

Burn Survivor Network provides information about independent organizations, programs, burn centers, and other services. When you follow a link to a third-party website or service, that organization’s privacy practices apply. BSN is not responsible for the privacy practices of independent third parties.
